  1. Only income earned can be garnished not money in the bank.  Sure you can open an individual account or joint with your husband, it doesnt matter.

  2. Generally, a garnishment is taken from earned wages not from a bank account. Therefore, opening a joint bank account with your husband shouldn't be a problem. Your husband's employer won't suddenly start taking money out of his check because of your garnishment. And no one should be raiding your bank account for money either.

  3. I would not open one with your husband they will take his money too.  I am assuming they are takeing money from you.

  4. A garnishment means that your employer is told to hand over the money that you have earned.  Your employer can not ignore the court order.  As soon as you have paid the debt in full, your paycheck will once again be yours.

  5. Maybe - if they are unable to find the account.

But, if you owe the money, why do you want to put it off any longer?  Pay the debt and get out from under it.  Quit hiding from it.
