  1. If you can't tell a gelding from a stallion, I would certainly consult someone who can.  In addition, even if a stallion is gelded, he can still settle a mare for a certain period of time, so if he is in fact, gelded, I would find out when...that should unravel the mystery.  If you actually, really don't know how to tell one from the other, look under his belly, between his hind legs and see if he has testicles..if he has, he is a stallion, if he doesn't, he is a gelding.

  2. As the sperm producing organs have been removed, it's more likely that your mare has just gotten fat.

  3. Yes it possible your mare is pregnant only if he was able to mate with her very close to when he was gelded, or if he was not gelded properly (but very very unlikely, he would need to be extremely fertile)

Geldings will often mount mares, especially when they are on heat, mares will also mount other mares.

Is it possible your mare has had access to another stallion? Or if you have only had her for a short time that she ran with a stallion previous to you getting her?

    Mare's carry for 320 - 355 days. Usually around 336 days.

Of course if she is on good feed, she could just be getting fat!

I would suggest you contact a vet & have her checked out & if she is in foal & you are certain there was no other way she could of gotten to be, also have your 'gelding' checked.

    Good luck

  4. It is possible that even if you recently gelded him, he can still get a mare pregnant. Call a vet and either have a pregnancy test done, or have your gelding checked. Your vet may have missed a t******e, do you know for sure that they got both?

  5. I really doubt it seeing as how he was gelded. WHen they geld horses, they disconnect the tube leading from the erm...balls (i don't know the technical name) to the actual p***s. So, she is probably just benefiting from all the nice summer graze.

  6. Umm no it is not possible for a gelding to be a stallion...

And it is not possible for a gelding to have babies.

How can you not know the difference between a gelding and a stallion? Did you get him gelded?

  7. It is possible that he was a cryptorchid, with an undescended t******e that was not removed.  However, the sperm can't survive in the warm temperature within the body cavity, so it is unlikely that he could have impregnated your mare.  If the t******e had descended almost all of the way into the scrotal sac, he could impregnate her, since the sperm could then be viable.  All of this is unlikely.

The vet should take a look at him, and your mare.

  8. It's rare, but possible, for your boy to not have been gelded properly initially.  The other possibility is that he was recently gelded.  When was he gelded?  You need to have a vet out to check your mare.  If she is in foal, get your gelding checked out, too.

  9. Mounting/riding another horse is not too uncommon in some geldings.  He would have to be virile enough to actually penetrate the mare to get her pregnant.  Some geldings are proud-cut and can because some of their testicles were left in - whether on purpose or not.  Usually these geldings act like stallions most of the time rather than just when sometimes mounting a mare and they rarely can actually fertilize eggs within the mare as their sperm production is hardly there or not at all.

If he really did breed her in 12/07 - well, it takes 11 months..

Also, does she seem to be in season when he is mounting her?  - obviously if she is cycling and coming in heat she is not bred.

    Good luck!

  10. Yes it's possible if he's "proud cut" which simply means that when he was gelded the vet didn't gett all of the t******e and the horse can still produce s***n.  Talk to your vet.  I've only ever known one "proud cut" gelding and to my knowledge he never impregnated a mare (but he was never turned out with them either).

  11. ask your vet

if you didnt own the horse before he got gelded, its possible that he really was never gelded

if he was properly gelded, then no, he cant get her pregnant

you probably will want to have your vet come out and look at him and the mare, to see if 1. he's a stallion and 2. shes pregnant
