Question:

I have a genuine question about house female pets and their periods.

I really and truly don't get this about female house pets.

So female cats and dogs will get their periods, what if they've been spayed? Does that make it stop?

Also how much would they bleed? I can't imagine this would go over well in many homes.

I just wanna make sure I know what I'm doing if I adopt a rescue dog.

Thanks

  1. Hi Sarah... dogs nor cats  get periods in the same way that humans do since they do not menstruate.  The time in cat's or dog's cycle that most people consider to be the period is actually the time that the either are  in "heat", which will produce some bleeding. This is the time that each are most fertile, and if she mates during this time, she likely would become pregnant.

Spaying will resolve the heat cycles and ensure and keep the pet's having the tendency to wander away from home to become impregnated.
