I've been taking care of a gerbil for a few months now and the cage smells like its manure. I have bedding in place, but i think it's ok to leave it that way. Of course it doesn't have diharrea or anything like that.

  1. The smell, although annoying, isn't normally a problem. You should change your bedding according to the size of your cage, and how many gerbils there are inside.

I would buy some new bedding, but if it is not easily accessible, it shouldn't hurt to wait a bit longer.

  2. clean out the cage with a disenfectant  especially for rodents once or twice a week.

  3. To ensure the safety of the Gerbil it is best to clean out its cage every month or so. Put down a fresh bedding and the smell will go away and you cute little gerbil will stay happy and healthy!
