  1. My nephew (American) met his future wife in the DR while working there (as a software engineer ).  He was in the DR several times, for long periods for his job. He married his GF, and he was living with her while in the DR.  They had 2 children, and all this time, he tried to get her to be admitted in the US. It finally worked, after years, a marriage and 2 kids.

I wish you luck, but get ready for a lot of hassle.

  2. There is no way that is not a big hassle.  if you become engaged, you can apply for a fiance visa for her.  See 1st site below.    Otherwise the only way she can apply to immigrate to the U.S. is if she has a parent, spouse or child living in the U.S. who can sponsor her, or she is extremely highly educated and has a rare job skill, or has millions and can qualify as an investor...or one other way. This is the Diversity lottery program and takes several years to accomplish.  She would have to register for the lottery 2 years in advance, be lucky enough to be the one in 60 that is chosen for further consideration, then go thru the immigration process.  See second site.

She may apply for a tourist visa through the American embassy in the Dominican Republic, but cannot live, work or stay in the U.S. on that visa...it is strictly for a short visit...and most applications for tourist visas are declined.  So...if you become engaged the fiance visa would be the best path...but it has strict requirements too.

  3. if your seriously love her..like your "both" planning to get married...then get a lawyer to get you the immigration papers...he/she will tell you all the steps to bring her over... =]

    good luck and congrats!!! =]

  4. No it WON'T. Trust me i am Dominican and i know about this. First of all you need to get married or engaged. Then you go to this web page and get the applications. http://www.usemb.gov.do/indexsp.htm Who ever told you this is a long process yes they are correct but since you are American it will only last about a year. So if you have any questions email me.

  5. many people in this site are inexperienced in law cases u should try asking a lawyer !

  6. Yes, it will be a big hassle! Lol, sorry but it's the truth. Like everyone else said above me, unless she is really wealthy or from a family that's "pegao" (well-connected) it's hard to get even a visitor's visa. If you ARE serious enough that you want to marry her, then you can apply for the fiance K-1 visa. It's a lot of work, but you don't need a lawyer for it. There is a site that's just for DR-US visas, check it out:

A little advice though, sorry! haha...before you get engaged, make sure that she is the one!! I know that's standard relationship advice, but the DR is kinda notorious for people that look for Americans to scam and marry just so they can get a green card :/

    Good luck!

  7. It will be a hassle unless you "know somebody." Even is she meets all criteria to get a Visitor's Visa, it is still hard to get.  I don't know where you are at in your relationship, but have you thought about a Spouse Visa in which you have to marry within 90 days of her coming to the U.S. ( I think it is 90 days...) Log on to this site for the legal process but nothing is guaranteed even with all criteria met:  http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

Good luck to you two.....I am working on something similar for my boyfriend who also from the islands.
