In 17, 18 in a month, and my job makes me unhappy... I work as a salesperson at an electronics store... ive always been shy and i dont much like the entire salesperson thing, it wouldnt be so bad if it werent for the structured sales pitch... but anyways most teenagers my age would really love to have this job, it pays more than minimum wage and the employees there are pretty nice. I'm a senior in high school since two and a half weeks ago, and so far dreading my job and working has greatly effected my grades. I cant stay awake at all during school because of lack of sleep... i literally havent stayed awake during one period of U.S. Gov this entire year... my entire life is go to school then go to work lately =[ i dont have any time for fun, or friends or even study :( and i know the obvious solution would be to quit, but i dont want to disappoint my parents or even myself. i know this may seem like a no brainer to most people but i just need someone to talk some sense into me... should i really quit or am i just being a wimp???

  1. Your grades and not falling asleep in U.S. Gov't are the priority. How long have you worked at this job ? Maybe you could talk to your supervisor and get your hours reduced or work during holidays when school is out. The money is nice, but if you are not happy then why stay ? I'm sure if you talked to your parents about it in a sensible way they would stand by you and help you make the best decision that is right for YOU. (I don't think your parents would be disappointed in you. ) Anyway, enjoy your senior year and good luck with your decision, whatever the outcome !

  2. find something that makes you happy.  go to college.  get your education.  do something you like.  why would you need to work during your senior year?  i would think that your parents would be more upset if you failed out, than if you quit your job.  concentrate on school.  work can come later.

  3. Well, I don't think you are missing much in your US Gov class although I bet your teachers would argue with me on that for hours on end.

As for your dilemma, the best advice I could give you is this: Your education should always be your #1 priority. I would recommend sitting down and not just talking about this with your family (who I'm sure would be able to relate to this) but your employer as well. They deserve to know what is going on right now and probably could give you valuable advice at this *extremely* crucial point in your life.

Are you a wimp? Not a chance. As my grandmother once told me: You need to do what makes you happy. (She was an old fashioned mail-order bride that was happily married for 70 years, if that tells you anything about her advice)

  4. First, consider why you have a job in the first place.  Do you need the money?  Are you doing this for yourself, or for your parents?  If you need the money, you may consider cutting back on the hours you work, or looking for a different job.

Second, consider your future.  What do you want to do after graduation?  Do you want to continue selling electronics?  Are you planning on going to college?  If you want to go to college, you definitely need to cut back on your work hours.  Your job should not be affecting your grades right now.

Are you being a wimp?  I don't think so.  I just think you are young and don't know the difference.  If you don't need the money, i would leave your job on good terms so you can concentrate on school, and enjoy your last year of high school before you go to college or join the real world.

    Good Luck to You!

  5. The extra money isnt worth it. You're barely 18 and literally have the rest of your life to work and make money. Lay back and take a less stressful job that you like for now and work on those grades and getting into college so you can get a real job that you LOVE. Good luck!

  6. Well, you can ask them to only have to work weekends or, to have you not work so late. That way you can keep your job and still go to school. But, if you can get by without this job and really want to get rid of it, then quit. Just tell your parents that you aren't focused in school and it makes you sleep. They should be proud of you for being responsible. I don't think you'll dissappoint them.

  7. You should put school first. I know you want a car etc. But school is important also.

  8. if your grades are sufferng then i think that you should quit cause that job could cost you another good job because you went to college i think that if you really need the money you should try to work out a better way to get sleep and get better grades. If you dont really need the job then you should quit cause its not worth it and senior year is all of that you dont want F's on your transcripts because of a S****y job like that!

  9. Quit the job. Don't make yourself unhappy over a job. There will be many more obstacles to overcome later on in life. Concentrate on your schoolwork and have fun as you are still young. If you still think of earning pocket money whilst in school, then choose something fun and with shorter hours. Strike a balance!

  10. First and formost, only you can make the decision if you should stay or go.  I will also tell you that I think life is too short to be unhappy with what you do in life.  We work 40 hours a week, a majority of our life so you have to enjoy what you do.

I am a sales rep myself, and sales is not an easy career but it is very rewarding.  I will tell you that when I started in sales I was an inside sales rep and I was a bit shy, but the more I learned about what I sell and the more confidence I had in myself I started to grow out of my shyness, and now I am in the top 5% of our sales reps country wide.  Please do not think that I am tooting my own horn here, because I am not, I am trying to prove a point.

It is very common to have a sales pitch for you to go off, but you know what, they don't want you to sound like a robot either.  You need to put your own personality into it.

I think you need to talk to your parents before you do anything.
