  1. if you want back spin put the ball have the ball align with your left foot (im assuming you are right handed) then when you swing, swing a little harder, should add spin...hope that helps

  2. This question seems to come up like 5-6 times a week at least.  Backspin is the result of a ball that has been struck well with a descending blow.  Its hard to visualize but you actually pinch the ball between the ground and the club face.  While the softer covered balls will be easier to spin.  Lets face it.....Tiger or Phil could spin a rock if they chose to. Tiger has probably spent more time in the last few yrs learning to control spin than most golfers spend on a golf course.

  3. To do this you need the proper wedge like Titleist Vokey spin milled

  4. getting backspin is about making good connection with the ball. to get a ball to spin you need to trap the ball between the face of the club and the ground.

it also helps if the groves in your clubs are nice and clean and not worn out. to keep spin change your wedges every year to year and a half.

  5. that is an extremely difficult thing to do. i can only get it to spin back 1-2 feet. i put my feet close together(10 in.) and bend my left knee(im right handed) and open my left foot 45 degrees. i choke up on the club a few inches and put my hands forward in front of the clubface. i put 75% of your weightt on my left leg and swing, the ball will lift high up and spin back a foot or two on the green. i use my 7,8,9 pw, sw, lw, etc. on these shots.

    hope this helps!

  6. I was once told by a coach to try to hit across the ball and hit the ball as clean as possible. The best bet would to see your local pro and get them to show you, it's easy once you're shown.

    Have a good one...

  7. To get the same sort of backwards action that the pro's get, not only do you need to be using a nice new quality wedge, good quality ball, and strike the ball cleanly in a downwards action (you really need to nip the ball before the ground), but the green also needs to be receptive to the ball.  If you are playing on a hard dried out green  no one, not even tiger could get massive action on the ball (notice how in many Opens the pros can't stop the ball).  Another factor is the speed of the greens.  The pros play on very quick greens with minimal resistance to the ball, so the ball will travel further backwards on these super quick greens than it will on the average golf club green where the speed is probably half to two-thirds the speed of the pro circuit.

  8. Hello Gog

It is really quite simple.  Hit down on the ball.  Typically you can achieve backspin with the higher clubs, w, sw, 9, 8 and then it gets tough.  Hitting down on the ball and take the divot in front of the ball.  That will indicate that you hit down on it.  If the divot is behind the ball, well.....you probably didn't hit it that good.

Try putting the ball back in your stance.  If right handed off your right foot, if left handed off your left foot or close to them.  Definetly have the ball back past the center of your stance for sure.  Closer to the back foot, the more you are going to hit down on it and thus achieve the back spin you are looking for.

    Hope that helps,

    steve
