I just started high school. We had summer reading (Mythology,By Edith Hamilton) to do. The guidelines were that you were allowed to take notes on the novel for a test that would be worth 3% of your grade.

However you weren't allowed to use the notes.

Here is the problem... I commit things to memory and I did the same to the book, Mythology. Also, I thought that doing the notes would be unnecessary if the test was not open note, so i didn't do them. Today we took the test and our teacher collected the notes, everybody else wrote 5-6 pages, while I barely prepared 2 pages of notes.I got a zero (0%) on the notes. I was sure I got a perfect score on the test, though.

Can I still get my grade up through the semester (i am usually a straight A student)?

  1. since it's only 3% of your grade, you can still get an A.

just do all your work (:

  2. You should reread over the assignment to make sure the notes weren't required. If they were, it just means you have to work extra hard to make sure you don't drop any further. Even though the test was worth 3%, the notes were probably only a small fraction of that.

You should also find out if your teacher grades based on categories. For example, Tests: 30%, Quizzes: 15%, Homework: 40%, etc. If so, find out which category the notes are in and make sure you don't slack off there.

Try and talk to the teacher also, and explain that you didn't know the notes were required. He/She may be a little more lenient and give you a few extra points or even half credit. A zero is pretty harsh.

  3. Absolutely, however, the best you can possibly get is a 97% because of the 3% note loss.
