  1. You do not need a passport to travel to and from Mexico by LAND  at this time.  You can use your green card and a photo I.D.  After summer 2009 passports wil be requird for land travel too. If you do not currently have a passport from your home country, you need to apply for one through your country's embassy or consulate in the U.S.  U.S.citizens currently need a photo I.D. and proof of citizenship ( passport or birth certificate), and permanent residents need a green card and photo I.D.  See site below.


  2. No, you just need your green card and a government-issued photo ID (DMV id card). Soon you will need a passport - the rule changes in 2009.
