  1. Yes, you still need passport.

  2. if you are traveling by air? yes you do need passports,

    Lawful Permanent Residents:

    Air Travel

All travelers including children must present a passport or secure travel document when entering the United States by air.

    Land/Sea Travel:

Lawful permanent residents may continue to present their Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card. More information available at CBP.gov.

Foreign nationals that are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. must present a Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”, INS Form I-551), a Reentry Permit (if gone for more than 1 year), or a Returning Resident Visa (if gone for 2 years or more) to reenter the United States.  U.S. LPRs are not required by the U.S. to have a passport for travel, # although most foreign destinations will require you to have one to enter their country.#   (LPRs that are out of the U.S. for more than 180 days are subject to new immigrant inspection procedures as per 8 USC 1101.)

  3. Mexican immigration requires you to carry both your passport as well as your permanent residence card (ie green card) when entering and leaving Mexico. However, US immigration does not require green card holders to present their passport upon re-entry to the US, only your permanent residence/green card is needed.

  4. yes, passport is needed. your green card is only good for coming back to the US. you don't need a passport then. but for going to mexico, then yes, a passport is needed.
