  1. I have an idea.   Go home, and we will call you when we want you to come back.

  2. If you know you're going to be out for at least a year, you can apply for a re-entry permit through USCIS and preserve your green card status for up to 2 years. I doubt your time back home will count as residence in the US. Do you think it should?

edit: The form for a re-entry permit is an I-131. Check out uscis.gov and put in re-entry permit in the search window at the top right. You'll see everything you need to know about this.

  3. you dont have a problem just go and come back like a normal trip. when you come back ,your card is still valid

  4. Get advance parole before you go.

Immigration laws are very complicated and biased against allowing immigrants into the United States.  Because of that, you should only rely on the advice of an immigration attorney who is not only familiar with the law, but with the facts of your specific situation.

As a Permanent Resident, you may exit and reenter the USA, but the length of your stay (one year) is a problem.  Since you know in advance that you will be gone for a year, apply for advance parole through the Immigration system.  (Your attorney will know what form to use.)

If you have had residency the required length of time and can postpone your trip for a while, it would probably be a good idea for you to apply for and obtain citizenship, BEFORE you go.

Once you are a citizen you will not have time restrictions on your absences from the country and will not need advance parole to leave and come back.

Also, since Homeland Security does check on all applicants for citizenship, leaving the country and then applying can delay processing of your petition.

    Hope this helps.
