  1. If you have a problem, it won't be with the US. Yes, you're free to go, but if you do run into problems, your green card will provide no particular protection. It's not the same as citizenship, and for example, if you are arrested, you remain a citizen of your original country, and they have no obligation to inform the US embassy or allow access to you. So, consider that, and then do as you wish.

  2. Yes, but you still need to check if the country that ou are planning to travel requires visitor's visa based on your citizenship. Canada and Mexico don't require visa for US Green card Holder as long as you have valid passport.

Here is the link you can check information regarding visa requirement

  3. You need to use your passport from your country of citizenship and your green card.  Make sure your passport is current and has enough time before expiration to meet the requirements of the country(s) you will visit.

Your visa requirements are determined by your country of citizenship, not the requirements for US citizens.  If say, Canada requires a visa for citizens of Country X, you need to meet those requirements.  You would not meet Canada's visa-free travel conditions which apply to US citizens.

  4. No problems.

You'd be shocked at how often this happens.  The threat back home seems to evaporate just about the time the green card gets issued.

In any case, once you get your green card you'd have to do something like get convicted of a crime to lose it.

    Have a safe trip.
