  1. Look around for other vets. The cheapest price I found was $100 dollars per pig. It doesn't get much cheaper than that, so you'll be spending A LOT of money neutering all of them.

Have you considered neutering just the males? That way you would be spending less money.

  2. It is probably that high because it is such a small animal and the vet will be doing a complicated procedure.  You probably will have a hard time finding a chaeper price anywhere else but it wouldn't hurt calling around.

  3. Check around all the different vets in you area.  $100 to $150 in my area. Have all your guinea pigs sexed and just neuter the males.  It's an easier procedure.

I've found that vets will quote a high charge in an effort to discourage people from doing this mainly because the don't have the equipment to work on small exotics and/or they are not experienced in doing this on small exotics.

Many guinea pigs die because of neutering by an inexperienced doctor so ask questions and make sure whom ever you choose has done this procedure successfully on a regular basis.  If you live in the central  New York area I can give you a few referrals.  I've had four guinea pig boars neutered successfully.

  4. Call your local humane society and tell them your problem. They may be able to help you since you seem very sincere in wanting the best for your pets.

I commend you for your very wise thinking!

  5. Guinea pig is a delacacy you know?

takes like a VERY strong flavoured chicken with the colour and texture of duck...

    tastes so much better smoked.

if you got 5, it's worth a try

  6. mi best advice is to get another " piggy" and sell the others to a breader!

  7. please tell me the area you live in, so i can find out for you.  then ill answer again. :)

  8. How long have the mum and dad been seperated? If dad was in the cage after mum had the babies it is possible that she could be pregant again. Do you know the s*x of the babies? It might be worth having someone check to make sure that they are all girls. You will need a big cage to house all 7 piggies together- and even if the males are desexed dad may still fight with his son- so I would recommend finding new homes for the baby boys if you want to keep daddy.

My vet charged me $130 to spay my guinea pig- I thought that was expensive!

You should try a local shelter clinic- they should have experience in desexing guinea pigs- they may be able to give you a better deal- but even if they cant you know the money is going towards helping other animals as well.

  9. Actually, 300$ Is probably the cheapest you can get them. I am a vet and we charge 750$ to neuter one. Because they are so small it cost a lot to get the nanotechnology, small devices, we have to charge that much.
