i am 13 and i have 5 guinea pigs a mom a father (who are separated) and three 17 day old baby's i want the mother, father and the children to be able to be together without anymore baby's. i found out that they can be neutered but it was $300 a guinea pig. my parents said no. Does anyone know where i can get my guinea pig neutered for a cheep price??? i only want to neuter one s*x which would be the male, i live on long island, stony brook. so if you know of any vets that would neuter for a cheep price (like a hundred a guinea pig) please tell me, thanks.

  1. It is unlikely that you could keep them all together anyway, even if they were neutered, since male guinea pigs kept together will almost certainly fight.  The sight referenced below has more info on keeping guinea pigs together.

  2. Vets do not "fix" the females, onlly the males.

  3. There's no guarantee they would get along even if you neutered them.

If you can't afford the surgery, you should just keep them separated by gender. If any of the babies are male, they will eventually challenge dad over the sows, neutered or not.

  4. Phone up all your local vets to find out the prices.  It may be cheaper to buy another cage and put them next to each other.  If there are baby boys, then they could live with their dad if he will accept them.  Once they are a bout 6 weeks old, they will be weaned and ready to leave their mother (in fact, they will almost be able to make more babies) so try introducing them to the dad at about 5 weeks to see if he will let them live with him.

  5. yeah , as said before , call you vet , and see if they can get the guy neutered , for a cheaper price , but the price would be AT LEAST 100 $$ if not more , hope this helped = ) ~ carmelicious ~
