I have a guitar amp with a audio input, would it be safe to plug it into my tv to listen to?

It's a Crate GTD15, and if it is safe how long can i leave it on, because i sometimes fall asleep while watching movies. Thanks!

  1. This is certainly possible. The trick is getting the right kind of output signal from your television.

    If you're lucky enough to have a television that has a headphone jack, you're in business. You'll just need a cable and the appropriate adapters.

    Unofortunately, you will probably be quite disappointed in the sound. The guitar amp is intended to produce quite a few frequencies in the high range, whereas your television tends to eliminate many of these. The tonal balance will be peculiar, and the sound may seem unnatural and unconvincing.

    You may also hear quite a bit of "hiss" in the background from various kinds of distortion, but fiddle around and you might get it to work.


  2. I don't see why not.  Although if that's a tube amp you're needlessly wearing on the life of the tube... if it's solid-state it shouldn't be a problem though.
