My mom doesnt have that much money to take him to the vet at the momen. Also he chws on absolutely nothing except his food. I've tried putting honey on cardboard and his chewing block and all he does is l**k it. Hes extremely stubborn .Also he is beging to come up wit a rash on his face and ears. I'm sure its from the bedding but I've used the same bedding for ever and he has had no problems with it at all. I clean his cage regulary so its not from lack of cage cleaning. Please give advice. NEED HELP

  1. Hey I have 3 hairless rats and the rash is always normal on them, don´t worry. Sometimes they even have a red color, like blood aroud their eyes but that is normal. My rats wouldn´t chew anything either so what i did was giving them only sunflower seeds as they need to chew the outer part to eat them, it worked pretty good and they don´t have any problem. Good Luck.

  2. Try putting something like a branch in. I read that apple tree branches are good, this should help. For the face, if you have him on woodshavings/saw dust then this is the problem, you need a paper based bedding.

  3. Go to the dollar store and get a bag of small doggie bones. Mine LOVE them, if you get the multi flavored ones you can see which ones it likes. The rash could be from mites, try giving him a gentle bath make the water a little warmer than you would your own bath (they have higher body temps than us) and gently wash his face with a soft cloth. If you use any soap use no tear baby wash and dilute it alot! Good luck!

  4. Use hard food like carrots, or what i do for my hamster is go to the pet store and buy mini munchies, which are wood and aren't expensive, and make it smell like their fav food.

  5. with thechewing. try getting him flavoredd chew blocks. it'll be only about 5$ for 3 of the blocks. and that way he can't l**k it off, because it's baked in. they're realcheap, and work most of the time. with the rash, it could be from him itching. I'd advise you, please try somehoww to get some money. the rash could be a serous thing. and I know I'd rather take my rat to the vet and get it solved, even have it be nothing. then not take it and have it be something serous that could hurt him, or even kill him. until you can take him to the vet mayb try callinggg one? some vets will give some information over the phone, without you having to pay. if that works, even if it doesn't, until you can take it to the vet, keep a very close eye on it's rash, watch him, and what he does. watch his water and food dish, on how much he eats and drinks. if it seems he stoped eating and drinking as much, like a big decrese, it means he MUST go to the vet a.s.p. but if his eating and drinking stay the same, he's alrite until you can afford the vet. just watch how he acts. and if anything seems weird, you could ask me.

  6. take it to the vet to trim his teeth and try to remove the rash.Try getting the rat a different type of bedding.

  7. try another treatybon chewable things and when you have enough money take it to a vet straight away

  8. Try a variety of hard rat treats from the pet store.  The really big ones that hang of the side or top of the cage are best as the rat hast to knaw it to get pieces of.  Also try dog biscuits and carrots.  The vet should only charge the consultation (check-up) fee to clip teeth as it very simple and quick.  Call the surgery to enquire.
