I have a hen and chick plant and this summer it started growing 2 long stemmed plants with blooms .?

Question

Someone told me these were roosters and they would kill my hen and chicks. Is this true and what if anything should I do? I have had these plants 4 or 5 years and this is the first time this has happened.

once the 'roosters' bloom, the 'hen' will die... not right away, but eventually..... the chicks at her base will then be able to grow bigger and fill in when you remove the old hen...

Just cut them off unless you need the seed pods. I don't always get flowers on mine, I have seen them once in years.

I don't like the look of the flowers, I don't remember any dying.

Mine grew one last year and had no effect. I believe it's just their way of reproducing beyond just "spreading". Mine had a bunch of little pink flower clusters!!! My plan'ts still thriving this year with no ill effects. I think your friend was pulling your leg!!

I have pictures of mine blooming like that  almost 10 years ago, and they are still thriving. Altogether, they are about 20 years old. They rarely bloom. That one time is the only time mine has. They are EXTREMELY hardy. Don`t worry about them, they will be fine. Take pictures, you have bragging rights. Hens and Chickens are succulents, like cactuses, and are hard, and rare, to get to bloom. (The one that flowers will die, but all the rest will live).I leave mine on the front porch year-round, summer and winter. (I live in zone 6). I water them rarely, and fertilize them even more rarely.

That is the plants flower.I have them every year.If they crow at 5:00 am then they are roosters.
