i am supposed to be flying to Cancun on Monday 27th August. Obviously with hurricane Dean on the warpath i may be staying in Sunny Scotland! Does anyone know if hurricanes pass quickly or ? Any information on aftermath etc? Im doubting our travel operator will allow flights after a hurricane?? Lets hope everyone is safe no matter what happens!

  1. hurricans can be quick as a matter of hours or they can be slow , we're talking a day or two..

cancun gets warning every year ,during the hurrican season , wilma made it a year ago or so, before wilma was gilbert a big one , so we're talking a 10 years diferent..

most of the times this big  depresion become storm , or change it course,,

wait till wednesday , i talked to my sister , she is in cancun , and she told me that they probebly get tomorrow at night,,

i say probably bacause i lived  there and  nothing never  happend.

but good luck  and i hope you can have a wonderful vacation.

  2. You're not leaving for a week. Everything will be fine! Have a wonderful time. I love Cancun.

  3. I would check the weather prediction by the authority and trust 80% of the prediction and make my decision from there. Hurrican is very unpredicable and the consequence is deadly! The closer it gets, the more accurate the predication will be. Even after the hurrican has passed, if the place got hot, it would be a big mess! not worth it!

  4. call em up and check it out...your rite "act's of god" are'nt usually covered.....but it's worth a phone call anyway

  5. they were cancelling people yesterday turning them around and sending them home not letting them check in. u will need to speak to yr tour operator after hurricane has passed to see the situation. lets hope that its not too bad and u will be able to go and that everyone there is safe.

  6. it will have gone by then, also the planes will divert around it, the pilots are always talking to air traffic control to get updates, so it will be fine, maybe a slight bumby ride

  7. My Friend was called this morning by her tour operator, she should have been going tommorow morning and they have told her to cancel she has lost out on £700 and cannot claim it back as it is a so called act of God and not covered in the insurance, she has booked another now to crete but that is self catering, so she has lost out on money in all ways, but you are not going for another week so it may have calmed down by then fingers crossed, if you get there enjoy your holiday X
