  1. You have a home theater and you are worried about cost?

  2. Get some crown molding and put rope light in it.  I have seen a few home theatres do this and it looks great.

Below is a link to a theatre build that used a blue rope light.

  3. Track lighting. You can mount the track on the ceiling and run the power cable down a corner of the room and just plug it in (they have a rotary switch in the power line for turning the lights on and off). You can get a 6-foot track and a few halogen spots for under $100 at a home improvement store. Then you can point the spotlights at walls for a reflected light source. This is especially cool if you have a picture or something on the wall where the light is pointed.

  4. Use halogen floodlights, you buy them for $10 and they give a great deal of light. Try to use 3 floodlights for the principal lighting: 1 back light and 2 front lights. I also suggest that you hang them on the ceiling to give a more natural way of lighting.

This gives you the cheapest way of illuminating a theater, it's not the best way but it works great for a home theater

    Good Luck :-)
