  1. You find out what breed it is and then call that breed association for help.

  2. Go online to the breed association, put in the horse's registration number, and you should be able to get the breeding.  Some associations will also show you where the horse showed and how it placed.  It will also show previous owners.

  3. What breed is it?  Not every registered horse is a show horse.

  4. If you're talking about a lip tatoo, depends upon the breed or horse.  Thoroughbreds have the year they are born, which is the letter in front of the series of numbers and then their registration number.  However, the tatoo on a racing Quarter Horse's lip has NOTHING to do with their registration number.

As the other posters have said, a horse doesn't have to be shown to have a registration number.

  5. Hi Laura:  I had a similar problem a while back when I got an Appendix AHQA mare.....I had her name, but nothing else.  The folks on this board were really helpful and provided me with a link to the members AQHA site.  (I wasn't a member so couldn't access it myself).

If you can tell us what breed and provide the number, someone may be able to assist you.

  6. If you know where the horse is registered (like AQHA for example) you can go on that registry's website and search for the horse using the registration number. I've done that with my AQHA horses a lot-it doesn't give me a ton of info but it will tell me where the horse was foaled and everyone before me who owned the horse. What type of information are you looking for?
