  1. i took lessons for about 5 years before i got my horse.i would highly recommend lessons before purchasing a horse.its good not only to learn to ride on a reliable lesson horse, but gain knowldege about caring for horses, working w/ more difficult horses,etc.w/ a professional.hope this helps!good luck

  2. Lessons before purchasing as well as after purchasing.

Get some experience under your belt first as I'm sure you'll require a different kind of horse once you've gained experience and knowledge and know where your goals lie for your future riding career.

    Enjoy!!

  3. both.

i toook sooo many lessons before i bout my horse. but once i got it i used him for lessons too.

  4. i bought a lesson horse i was riding.

  5. Well, my story is completely different. haha

I've been riding for 7 years, only 2 times I rode was an official lesson! I basically trail rode, rode around the arena, and taught myself. Accourding to people they say I was born in the saddle, which pleases me very much because it's such a great compliment!

In another year I'll be buying my first horse, and will be taking lessons on him/her. So actually I haven't taken lessons before, but will be buying then taking lessons! It's all so flip-flopped!

Anyways, I wouldn't say you HAD to take lessons seeing I only took 2 and those were just for English Hunter Seat, and I taught myself Western basically with a few pointers from people I know. But, I would recommend riding before owning! Definitely! So if you haven't ridden before, be sure to take a few lessons or trail ride a couple times before doing so, and then if you still feel the need to own a horse, go for it!

    =]

  6. definatly take lessons FIRST and buy a horse later! the lesson horse is a special animal, not just any horse will tolerate a beginner rider bouncing all over his back! you run the risk of serious injury buying some random horse and trying to use it for lessons if you're not an experienced rider. you need at least 6 months to a year of lessons by a professional trainer before you purchase your own horse

  7. I was born and raised around horses...We already had horses but none of them were mine..so when I was 2 my dad bought me my horse cowboy and he trained me on him..I miss him

    R.I.P "Cowboy"

  8. both would prob be ok

  9. I got a horse before lessons, actually I have never had lessons, execept maybe a few when I was in my 40's when I bought a 3 year old for my niece and nephew and I wanted to train the horse for the kids showing, so I took some pointers (like what the judges look for, how to sit etc.   The kids never did take to the horses, so I used that horse for one of my major trail horses, he was the best.

  10. I took lessons for a year and I am getting a horses in about a week

  11. i started taking lessons when i was 8, and i leased my first horse when i was 14 then i bought my first horse when i was 15..

    absolutely take lessons first

  12. Both - sort of.  I started working at a  local stables.  I worked there for almost 6 months - part of my "pay" was to learn to ride, though it was never official lessons.  I bought my first horse about 2 months ago and love it!  It was actually one of the horses already at the barn so I knew her already.  I still work at the stables and they're still teaching me more and more but it's from other horse owners and not from lessons.

  13. Lessons first, that way you will know what you want to buy...That's how it should be done...I didn't because I have been around horses pretty much all of my life, but if you don't ride, lessons first is the ideal way to start.

  14. i luv horses but i've never had one u can buy one before r after it will help u if u do it before so u can take ur horse home and ride ur horse and practice
