I have a hungry dog and a mum who is afraid of rodents, can i get hamsters?

I have a 3 legged dog but i really want hamsters, my dog can't climb the stairs (hamsters will be upstairs) so he can't get them. The thing is, will the smell drive him crazy? Also, my mum is afraid of hamsters, what can i say to her? I've tried convincing her but she still says no. HELP!

I bought a hamster at Petco. I also bought the food, cage and everything. Then i put it in my room on top of my drawer, after a few weeks my mom noticed. She asked where it came from and i said that a guy was giving it out for free and she totally bought it.
