so, say your a public high school student with an after school and weekend job, making about $400/month. you get an offer to homeschool, and spend most of your day with a few little kids rather than see your friends at school, then go to your normal job, but make $800/month in addition you are already making. what would you do?

  1. I'm with QuiltsR.... I don't really understand the question... but it sounds like someone has asked you to teach their kids at home.

Frankly, I would question the parents who are thinking about hiring a high school aged student to take care of their own children's education.  So would you be taking care of your own education and the education of "a few little kids" all at the same time?  Getting a good education is itself a full-time job.  Younger kids are going to need a lot of attention.  I think you would either sacrifice your own learning or the learning of the "few little kids."

As I believe someone else said... I don't think I would even classify this as homeschooling.

  2. go for the money

it's what makes the world go around.

  3. go to school and see your friends, you have the rest of your life to work

  4. Ok, still don't understand the question. What do you mean, "get an offer"?

Homeschooling is not a job you get paid for, it is a lifestyle. It isn't like teaching in public or private school, it is guiding your children's learning, not pawning the kids off on someone else to teach. Might as well send them to school...

Personally, if I was offered money to teach someone else's kids and had to drop out of school to do it, I wouldn't even bother answering the offer.  Better off staying in school or, if you wanted to, stay home and teach yourself.

If you really need more money, get a different job or work more hours, though working full-time while trying to get through high school is tough. I tried it for two months and just about failed senior year.

    :o)

  5. It does not sound like a good reason to home school.  I think home schooling is great, but not with the your motives.  What if the parents who are going to pay you $800.00 a month decide they don't like your work or they lose their job and cannot pay you.  All kinds of things could happen.   How are you going to study while babysitting?

You may have thought this out better than it appears that you have by your question but based on your question I would have to say 'no'.  Stay in school unless you have a logical reason to study at home.

    Homeschooling takes commitment.

  6. How important to you is spending time with your friends? Or getting out? If you are babysitting every day, while at the same time trying to get your schoolwork done, you likely won't be able to go out and do what typical homeschooling students do--going on age-appropriate field trips, participating in various activities and clubs...

It really depends on your personality and if you are able to get your school work done. I would have loved such a situation, but I've always been the independent, introverted type. I didn't need to have much contact with friends in high school to be happy. I'm not you, though.

  7. Ok, I'm a homeschooling mom that babysits from 7am til 5pm. My son is in the 7th grade and is very independant in his studies. It works out for us. Now, if it were my son trying to do this then he'd never get any schoolwork done! You have to realize that you will be spending all your time with the kids and then still have to do school in the evenings or whenever you can to stay up to where you should be. You will be tired after babysitting all day long!

  8. Homeschool is great, plus extra money is fun too!
