I will be teaching for one year (private school). I love the area, scuba, warm weather, saltwater crocodiles, etc. (I have been to Belize, Southern Mex, Costa Rica, Brazil and enjoyed all of them) Is there opportunity to earn money other ways (guiding, etc.)? I have some experience crewing sailboats and guiding outdoor trips. I will not be able to leave the island very often. The salary will be less than 1,000 US (room incl). I am interested in the opportunities that may arise (meeting travelers, ex pats, locals), but don't want to over-romanticize the situation. Gracias!!! If it matters, I am 31 M and from California y hablo Español.

  1. With room provided you can probably live comfortably with close to a thousand a month.  Keeping in mind that the cost of living is climbing in Roatan just like everywhere else.  As far as crewing or guiding, those types of positions are usually filled rapidly with islanders.  Are you a dive guide, master or instructor?
