  1. Now is the time to start applying for Financial Aid. Have your student go to their Guidance Counselor and as for the FAFSA paperwork or web site. This web site will lead you to all that you will need to know.

Hope this helps.  Any grant that charges a fee for paperwork - don't use them.....

  2. There is absolutely no charge for the paperwork. And the sooner ,the better! Check out this website for all your financial aid and college needs:

  3. Start looking at colleges now, you can talk to advisors from the schools and see what kind of scholarships your kid could be offered, start to weigh the costs, the pros and cons with your kid. On Jan 1 of their senior year of high school, they can begin to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid aka FAFSA, which is how you get all the federal and state grants. fill this out as soon after Jan 1, but not before or it wont count, as possible. they have a paper application, but online is much faster (by a few weeks). You and your child will need to get a pin # to electronically sign and access the online version. You will also need the household tax and income info and SSNs. the application process is free, and i have always been told never to trust a scholarship search site if it charged you money. they can start looking for other scholarships on some other free sites, such as Scholarships.com and Fastweb.com . These were recommended to me by my high school guidence counselor. Some High schools toward the end of the senior year will give seniors a local scholarship application packet that will have applications for scholarships given to students by local businesses or families. have your kid fill out applications to the colleges they pick as soon as they begin their senior year and don't forget about departmental college scholarship applications.

  4. They can certainly start now and all through senior year (the earlier the better though). I never had to pay for any grants, scholarships or anything I applied to. I would be hesitant if you are asked to pay.
