  1. It is hard to try to teach your own child - you don't have the patience and neither do they with their own parent!  get him enrolled in a quality preschool and you'll see changes.   I tried to teach my own daughter piano once and thought I'd pull out all my hair.  But I can teach a whole classroom of preschoolers without problem at all!

  2. be strong with him

don't strike just be strong in ur decisions

im not an expert but that's the most fault a parent can fall in

  3. 4 year olds tend to test their limits you have to be consistent and not run out of steam before they do

make a schedule of lesson time, reading time, hands on craft time and stick to it...you should see increase in his ability after a while...don't get discouraged all kids develop at a different rate

  4. I have Four children.

At four years old you need to refocus their attention to other things away from the behavior that is inappropriate.

If you ask him to clean his room, and he crosses his arms and says NO.  Then redirect him into something else like playing with the items you want him to pick up.  After that Come back to the cleaning with a different approach like.

"Would you help me to pick up these toys?"

Children can be tough and each of them is different and teaching them is a learning experience on the part of parents as well.

  5. Consistency is very important when it comes to consequences. A schedule and rules. Keep it positive. A preschool situation would most likely help too. Talk to other parents and find help in learning how to teach age appropriate behavior with this child. Just don't give up and try to find lots of positive things to praise the child.
