  1. there are lots of reasons.....take it to classes

  2. It is only imitating the thing it is sitting on if my experience is anything to go by

  3. he sees everyone else as threatening to your wife

  4. coz its protecting her.... not sure why!

  5. Protecting you.

  6. you might have more success with answers if you were to post your question in the dog section as opposed to Royalty

  7. The dog is NOT protecting her, the is controlling her! She thinks she is top dog and that your wife is her *****, this is what pack leaders do, you need to take the dog to behaviour classes and show it who is boss, its a nightmare but it will work, my dog was exactly this same, but its worth it, my dog is great now and knows her place in the household.

  8. Put a muzzle on that possessive dog.

  9. They are charming 'lap dogs' - the little fellow loves your missus- of course he will bite .... that is part of the breed.... ' he is saying : " upset my lady- I will pay you back"....

so the lap - is his ' sentry box' ..... Intro new folk in when he is not on 'the lap' thus on guard.

  10. The first site I found , said stress was more than likely the  cause for biting.......Hope some of this helps

As for the condition continuing , after the first time he bit - she might be tensing up now  when someone approaches and the dog is probably picking up on your wife's stress level

  11. It is protecting her, it is not trying to 'control' her, but this behaviour should be stopped. The owner should always been seen as the 'pack leader' and so should be able to stop any aggression and so stop the dog biting anyone. Read some dog training books looking at aggression and guarding behaviours, or go to a class. As long as it is addressed early and you are consistent, this behaviour should be relatively easy to stop.

  12. Try holding the clutch in.

  13. Because your wife is permitting this to continue.  The animal is asserting itself as the alpha animal and putting everyone else at a lower order than itself.  Your wife needs to take the dog off her lap and only allow it to sit beside her at most. Also time out will help.  Get your wife to buy a guard rail and put it across a doorway... say the laundry.  Put the dog over there... it can see, be talked to and everything, but you and your wife are a couple ... not the dog and your wife.  You could see a vet to learn how to deal with the unpleasant behaviours.

    Best wishes
