I carry a knife with me at all times

The blade is...about 5 and a half inches

I am 17 years old, is it legal for me to carry this around?

It is a folding knife, very sharp..

I carry it mainly when I go for walks, is it legal for me to carry it when I go to the mall? Where is it not okay to have it?

  1. I think a Swiss Army Knife is more "legal". Just don't take anything of that sort through an airport.

5 1/2 inches is long enough to kill someone so I don't think some people would be too happy about it.

Well, what do I know? As long as it ain't a gun or chef's knife and it folds, you're probably fine!

  2. call the police station and ask them. they will tell you what you need to know. you dont have to give your name or a reason but its ok to do so. they are helpful.

  3. Well, I carry around a 6 inch knife most of the time...so I really don't give a d**n about the law...its all about how you conceal it...and I too love my pretty shiny knife..

  4. A pen knife is legal and if you use it in self defense and kill your attacker, your free and clear. A pen knife is about 3.5 inches. Anything over that depends on what state you live in. 4 inches, opened, is the max.

  5. Laws on knives vary from state to state.  For example, any blade over 4 inches in Missouri is illegal in the urban cities, except for work related knives.  In California, spring assisted knives are illegal.

You need to contact your local police station and find out the truth for your area.  Remember also, that even if it is legal it may be illegal in the mall.  The mall is considered private property and may set up their own guidelines for weapons allowed.

  6. Yes, you will be arrested and charged with possessions of a deadly weapon sentence for the crime? 14 year's. "I <3 my pretty...pretty shiney knife :)" I'm not sure if you should even be aloud to carry a spoon.

  7. Not sure, you can try to check your state laws. But in all likeliness no. I'm pretty sure 3 inches is the max and you have to be 18. In the state of IL anyways.

  8. You have to know the law regarding knives in your state. Often, there is a maximum blade length. Ask the police what it is in your state and if there are any other laws that apply.

  9. This will vary with the laws of each state.

Here in NJ, carrying any knife is illegal unless you are engaged in a legal activity that requires the use of a knife.

(A 6 inch fillet knife is okay if you are fishing, a butcher knife is okay if you are working in a butcher shop. Either one is a felony if you are just walking around town.)
