I have a lamp with 100w max rating. What is the maximum wattage of CFL bulb I can put in it?

Since 1 watt in CFLs is approximately equal to 4 watts in a traditional bulb, does that mean I can put a 100 watt CFL bulb in (assuming one exists?) CFLs are cooler than regular bulbs, so would that work out?

  1. your rating is about correct.

i have many of the 23 watt (or there about) but it is supposed to equal 100 watt bulb.    be care full though you may not agree with the manufactures ideas of 100 watt bulb.

they are not as bright as a regular bulb.

just buy one or two to try out before you go hog wild.

they do use a lot less electricity than the traditional bulb.

i've never seen a 1,000 watt bulb regardless of the type bulb.

    good luck to ya.

you might want to check some of your local dollar stores for these bulbs, i have bought some there on several occasions, but they don't always have them.

have also bought some in a three pack at home depot.

you should have no trouble finding the size you want.

some bulbs are wide and some are thin, i recommend the wider bulbs.

the bulb is wide not the base.

    good luck to ya

  2. The lamp rating is designed for incandescent lamps which generate more heat than the CFL you want to use. If you have a 100 watt CFL that will fit go ahead and use it.

  3. Just look for a bulb that says equal to 100 watts on the package.

  4. their isnt as long u have a (forgot the name) but the highest i use is 1000w

  5. If it existed- you could.  Fluorescent lights create much less heat when they're on.  To my knowledge the largest CFL out now is a 23 watt, with a regular Edison (s***w-in) base.
