to save on memory, however, the drivers are for XP, is there any way around it so I can get all the proper drivers working for 2000, both are professional edition.

  1. If you do not know what all drivers you need for your laptop. I think you should install XP first and note down all hardware specifications and drivers required for 2000.

Then search internet and download what you need. This way you will not be doing hit-and-trial and get what is best for your laptop.

  2. if the drivers you need are not available from the original Windows 2000 install disk (which they probably aren't at this date), the only way you can get them would be to visit the websites of the individual vendors that manufacture your hardware components.

When you do a Windows Update, you should check to see if there are any hardware and driver updates included and install them. IIRC, those items are NOT installed automatically when you do a Windows Update under 2000, but you can manually request the install.

However, the manufacturers' sites are your best bet.
