you can't notice it unless you felt it but theirs a large bump on my lower gum. Its below a tooth that I had a large filling for and recently had a bracket on that tooth from my braces but I have gotten my braces off. So what could this bump be? a cyst? and what should I do about it.

  1. It Could Be An Enlarged Lypmnode Which Would Go One Of Two Ways

1-It'll Go Away By It's Self, && You'll Be Fine

2-You'll Need Surgery Because It's Swollen.

If It's Not Gone In A Week && A Half Go To The Doctor.

  2. You should go to your dentist quickly. It may be a number of things but based strictly on what you are describing it sounds like an infection at the base of that tooth that is working it's way to the gum line. Infections in teeth are somewhat like a volcano... the bone is dense and the infection builds up having no where to go so it finds the path of least resistance to release the pressure. Sometimes that is to go from the root of the tooth straight sideways to the gum tissue on the side. If this is the case, you will need antibiotics and dental treatment.

Or it may be a completely benign lump. Either way, you really should go get it checked.

    Good luck!

  3. Go to the dentist to make sure you do not have an abscess

  4. I am a dental assistant and have been one for two years.  When we see something like this, it could mean the tooth that the bump is under is infected and needs a root canal.  It could also mean there is a gum infection.  When a tooth is infected and dying, it swells with fluid.  But if there is no opening for the infection to come out of, it starts to form a pocket of puss somewhere, like your gum.  The infection could be caused by your large filling in that tooth.  Large fillings, esp ones that have been in for a few years, can crack, allowing bacteria down into the nerves.  On most cases like this, we would do oral medication to clear up the infection, open the tooth up and drain it, do a root canal, and replace the large filling with a crown.

I'd get into your dentist soon.  Tooth infections can cause a lot of pain and other problems if they don't get taken care of.  In the mean time til you get into the dentist, you can rise your mouth out with perixoide 2 to 3 times a day.
