Question:

I have a lawn sprinkling pump that was accidentally left on for 24 hours. What damage could have occurred?

It is not running and I have drained and re-primed it with no success. Any helpful suggestions on what may be the problem and how to fix would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Most pumps say do not run dry if it ran that long without water it is junk!


  2. If there is a place where you can see if the shaft is rotating when there is power on you can check that first. The next thing would be to open the connection box. If you get a strong acrid smell from it then the motor is probably burnt out. If you run a pump dry it doesn't cool down so it has a chance to burn out, no flames the insulation cracks and it shorts out the supply. Also check if it isn't tripped out somewhere or if a fuse is blown.
