I have called the manufacture and all they told me was to scrub it down which I did and it is still sticky, it looks like it was painted and not stained. Has anyone else had the probelm and if so what did you do to clean it up? This was a $1000.00 sofa!

  1. just grime build up from  normal everyday use, i don't know what you scrubbed it with but you need to buy saddle soap, you can get it a feed store or tack shop, it will clean your sofa like new again, good luck

hopefully whatever you cleaned it with the first time didn't harm the leather in any way

  2. Do not use saddle soap as this will only make the matter much worse.

The problem here will depend on the type of leather you have.

If it is a Bicast leather and you have not protected the surface with a leather protector that works then body oils and dirt can break down the finish and leave a sticky surface.  If this is the case then there is no way of rectifying the problem and adding more and more products will not help.

If your leather is a pigment coated (painted) leather then it may be that the finish has not been applied correctly and this has broken down.  Depending on how old the suite is you may have a case with the retailer.  Scrubbing will make the matter worse and adding products in a situation like this is not going to help.

Call a qualified leather technician to have a look at it for you and they will be able to advise correctly.
