My computer's CPU sounds almost like my carpet vacuum. I know it happens when I have many programs open but last week I ran recovery discs and my computer now it's just like when i bought it. But the problem it's still there. Whenever I open a program or internet explorer it starts to sound again. I don't know why it happens. I open task manager to see my CPU usage and it is like 99% when I turn in on my computer but it automatically slow down but when I open any program the sound starts again. It really annoys me. Is there anything i could do.

I'd appreciate any help and thanks in advanced

  1. your motherboard sets your fans speed when the computer is working hard and the temperature of the cpu increases. so the fan speeds up to try and cool it down.

you can try and download a fan controller. but you have to be careful not to turn it down too much that you end up frying your cpu.

or you can buy a new cpu fan thats quieter and better at cooling.

  2. You may need to replace your power supply, those can be signs of it going bad, it happened on my machine also!!!

  3. this is not easy to solve... its really technical and ur best bet is to get a newer CPU.  I am guessing this 1 is old.

  4. The fan speed is dependent on the CPU temperature.  When you open a program, the CPU has to work harder, draws more power, and gets hotter.  The fan speed increases to remove the excess heat.

Most likely your CPU heat sink is covered in dust and is restricting the air-flow over it from the fan, so it is over-heating easily.  Open the case, and get a can of "compressed air" to blow the dust and crud out of the heatsink.  The fan will then be able to keep the CPU cooler at a much lower speed.
