Not sure which species I have, but definitelt broad leaved common ones. Got yates weed and feed from bunnings and going to apply it, do I still need to hand weed after that? Or just leave the weeds to die off?

  1. Don't use "weed and feed" if you have any broad leafed plants in your garden!  You may very well kill more than you intend to kill.  Try this web page for a recipe for an organic, non-toxic weed killer:  http://www.shadesofgreensa.com/organic_p...

    "Weed Control

Pre-emergent – corn gluten meal applied prior to seed germination

Existing – Orange oil/vinegar mix (2 tbsp. orange oil per gallon of vinegar plus 1 tbsp. of liquid dish soap) makes a NON-SELECTIVE herbicide

Good lawn maintenance reduces compaction and strenghtens turf which suppresses weeds. Mow regularly, spray monthly with Medina Plus, water deeply when necessary, and apply ½” of compost to lawn twice a year."

  2. If you are applying a weed killer, that should suffice in ridding the lawn of weeds. You may have some which resist the treatment so bring a sample of that to the nursery . Let them suggest an application to rid the lawn of that weed.

  3. Some good answers here...my 2 cents is.....do not apply during the heat of summer...read label make sure its for your type grass

  4. Weed and Feed is usually a preventative and goes down early in the season.  It's not necessarily a contact killer and is instead used to get a handle on perennial weeds.  Next year put it down in the beginning of the season and it defiantly will help with your broad leaf weeds.

If you want to put something down now get a contact killer spray that says it works for broad leaf weeds.  All garden centers should have something that will work for you.  Depending on the weed you will probably have to apply it twice (wait 7-10 days in between applications)

Also, do not pull the weeds ahead of time as all contact killers work through the leaves and therefore the more leaf surface you can hit, the faster and better the product will work.

Make sure you spray early in the morning or in the evening and not during the heat of the day or your lawn will get stressed/burned.
