I have a lot of movies, but only 112Gb of space. How do I shrink all 100 movies to mb size?

All of my movies are vlc format (.avi i think). I would like to continue to put movies on my computer without having to upgrade my hard drive. I am trying to find a way to put all the movies in one zip folder that is only mb's in size not Gb. Is there a way? If not, what is The smallest file size I can shrink them to to make them take up the least amount of space?
