I have a mariner 20hp. lost key can anyone help??

Its been in storage for a year or so. and I always used the pull cord to get it started prior to this and when it wasnt on the boat. but now i cant find the key and i want to fit engine permanant. can a replacement be got or how do i over come this problem.

There's a # or code on the switch side> If not take the switch to a mercury dealer with a key supply and start fitting them till 1 fits>

You be able to by a new switch and keys from a Merc/Mariner dealer for about $45, they are a commonly stocked item at most marinas.  You're not the only one who has had key problems.

by the way, Merc has 56 alphanumerical combinations, not 12.

You can get a new key from your local merc/mariner dealer.If you have

the original key switch still on it there is a letter stamped on it and you can use this to get the right key.The letter is stamped on the end where you put the key into the switch.It will be 1 of these 6 letter's A-B-

C-D-E-F.Once you have this then there are only 2 keys for each switch

There are A1-A2-B1-B2 and so on.This should make things easier.

Go to the dealer. It is a common key. You should be able to get one for under $10 dollars.

It's the honest truth that you can get d**n near anything rekeyed OR you can find a locksmith that can open whatever is locked and make you a spare key to boot. Something similar happened to a friend of mine a while back. Just look online or in your yellow book to find a place that'll make you a new one...it's pretty expensive, it's usually about $300 from any major company but quite frankly, you some small local locksmith will do the job for a lot less. My friend got it done for about $100.

they on;y make about a dozen keys  start looking
