I have a mature tree in my backyard that has to go. Do nurseries ever buy trees like this?

It's a 12-15' Crype Mytle that blooms red flowers and it's just taking up too much space in my little back yard. I want it removed but I don't want it killed. Do nurseries ever bid to buy a mature tree like this or will I be lucky to give it away to someone who will simply exchange digging it up for having the tree to sell. Houston so I don't know if I should wait until it gets cooler to have it dug up so it will have a better chance of living elsewhere. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

  1. A nursery or broker is only interested in acres + acres +  You would be amazed how small the tree would look heavily pruned and cut back, which you will have to pay for, then pay for the haul off.

Stop and think, tree people have to drive and haul their equipment to your location in order to do the work, bucket truck, etc. and probably operate in a small space, and have liability insurance in case they hit something and cause some damage.  Unless you have a tree company or nursery next door........The guy from Cleveland is telling you right.

  2. We live in Cleveland, and had very large trees taken down a couple of years ago.  Here's how it went- they charged us big bucks to cut down the trees.  Then they charged us again for them cutting the wood up to haul it away,  then they charged us again for them to haul it away.  They left a few pieces for us for firewood.  And mind you, these were perfectly healthy 30 foot oak trees.  We had them taken down because they had become too close to the house.

  3. Try you local landscape firms.

  4. Hi Mr. H,

You want to wait until late fall or early winter when the sap is down to dig.  A landscaper might be interested, but you might want to try craigslist.  I've seen a few ads for mature bushes in my area.  You might want to plan out how you'd want to go about having someone come into your yard to get ii out, settle on some rules.  Someone could show up with a spade machine.  You'll have a huge hole once it's out.  Just some thoughts...good luck!  Wish I were near ya.  ;)
