I have a maytag heavy load washermachine?

when i do the wash once the machine is full the hot water stops but the cold water keeps filling? can i fix this myself or is it the timer, the machine is about 25 yrs old, ya ya i know im in need of a newone but it works great other then that, besides probably not a energy efficant machine anymore

The cold water valve is not working properly. Sounds like it is sticking. You can go to an appliance parts website and buy this part. You will need the model number for your machine, and you will need to be able to identify the part number of the piece you are trying to replace. Many websites will have exploded diagrams of the machines to help you find the part.

As to whether or not you can fix it, that depends on how handy you are and what tools you have :-)

I am not sure where the valve is located, but I suspect you will need to get the back of the machine off.

Truth be told, if you got 25 years out of this machine, that is darn good. You may want to consider replacing it with a front loader, which is more energy and water efficient.
