I have a mental health question?

Well, I have a lot of mood swings. One minute I'm happy and I have all this energy, but the next minute I'm depressed and I would snap and yell at people. I try to do what other people say, but it doesn't work. I'm also losing a lot of sleep for no reason. I try to do what people tell me, like read a book to sleep, or listen to classical music, but I still can't figure it out. With the sleep problem, I'm having a lot of nightmares more than usual.

My friend says they sound like symptoms of Bipolar disorder.

What do you think?

  1. I think you shouldn't listen to your friends, if you think you have a problem go see a professional.  If turns out you have bipolar disorder it is easy enough to treat and life with be so much easier with treatment.  I suggest you find out though.  Not knowing and just wondering isn't doing you any good.

  2. It sounds like you are just a normal, hormonal teenager. Bipolar disorder is not generally characterized by rapid mood swings (one minute you're happy, and the next upset), but by longer periods of depression and then mania.

Of course any time you are concerned about your mental health, it is worth checking on... you just shouldn't jump to any conclusions.

  3. Bipolar disorder. hm. it has alot to do on your age. could just be hormones for example. dont trust what your friend says unless he/she is a qualified doctor or psychiatrist. they wont usually give you a proper diagnoses until your an adult (18). i have had councelors since i was in the 3rd grade for mood disorders and they didnt diagnose me until i was 18, 10 or 11 years later get it checked out though. dont wait too long
