I have a three year old female daschund who constantly pees whenever someone other than myself come over. I have told people to ignore her but she is constantly jumping on them yearning for attention- which I know will cause her to urinate all over. I'm not sure if she is being submissive or if she is excited- maybe both. When she is seemingly calm and guests greet her, she immediately starts peeing! I've gotten to the point where I am so fed up I place her in her crate until I feel she will be able to handle all the excitement. I have tried everything to stop this problem and yet nothing has prevailed. please help!

  1. It is submissive peeing.  But it sounds like your dog is not trained at all.  You should enroll yourself and the dog in a good obedience class then you will have the tools to deal with a submissive peeing dog.  This is one problem that is best treated with the avoidance technique.  The guests should never greet the dog even when the dog seems calm.  It should always be "ignore the dog".  And since the dog is not trained you cannot command the dog to stay away or leave it.  And you are using the crate in lieu of training.  I find this a common mis-use of the crate.  This submissive peeing will gradually decrease as the dog get older but very slowing and maybe never completely.

  2. mine is 5 and she does this too, she gets like stage fright or something when someone pays attention to her! i hate it cuz she comes home all excited and runing jumping and if i tell her get off my bed or whatever she pees on it! when she is calm it doesnt happen so much or if i ignore her and tell her get off calmly but like my boyfriend said hello and pet her head HE NEVER PAYS ATTENTION TO HER hes not really a dog guy and the one time he did SHE PIDDLED! hes all thats DISGUSTING! i dont know what else to try...

  3. Put her leash on her when company comes over stand on the leash so she can't jump up.  Praise her, and try to get her attention.  Tell your friends, or put a sign on the door saying dog in training.  As them not to look at your dog for 4 minutes.  With time and reinforcement, this will help.

  4. my moms dachund is 10 and still pees when company comes. it is just a natural instinct that they have. when they get excited they tend to pee.
