  1. I have the same problem. tried updating, didn't work. reinstalled, didn't work.  I guess its a problem on avg's end of things.  seems like lots of people are experiencing this.  I feel better I'm not the only one!

  2. dont do anything drastic llike system restore or wateva

AVG is aware of this problem n is fixing it - read the the msg at this forum:

    http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?12,142...

just b patient n wait for them to fix it

  3. intc_escapee is right on the money! Thanks for this, I hate seeing that dang exclamation point and not being up to date.

  4. Hey,

Don't worry about anything, I just have the same problem. All AVG users are. It's just kind of like a bug, or the update is missing some files. The best recommended thing I suggest you should do is nothing. You might mess up AVG, and waste your time. They will probably update this soon. Your Antivirus and Spyware protection and all those stuff will still be working properly, so you shouldn't worry. The bad thing is you will have the ! on your grayish AVG icon. If you do not trust me you can search 'bin file missing' on Yahoo! Answers. You can see a list of questions exactly like yours posted somewhere 6 hrs, 7 hrs, 5 hrs ago, or somewhere today. It is just a false update made by grisoft. Just be patient and it'll be updated, and everything will be working properly again.

    Good Luck!

    Kevin

    Don't worry!

  5. Apparently it's a tech problem at their end & they are dealing with it, we just have to be patient :)

  6. 1) 1st when you update your avg then watch carefully which .bin file is missing

    2) then sirf  http://download.grisoft.cz/softw/70/upda...  this site and download that .bin file which is creating a problem in your avg

    3) Make a Folder and paste that file in that folder and run your avg

go to Tools menu--> update from directory--> give the directory name in which you copied that bin file...

4)and Update it...your problem finished enjoy...

  7. Just as intc_escapee said, as God is my witness...it worked just fine!

  8. It's happening with me too. I thought it was something I did since I've just run an anti-spyware scan but I'm glad it's not me lol! Looks like the best thing to do is wait for AVG to fix their update.

  9. Problem solved, it is working now. I have just gone to update & the problem has been resolved.

I didn't do anything bar wait patiently for AVG to sort their prob out. So don't worry about uninstall/reinstalling & wasting download space etc. ;-P

  10. Phew. Got scared I did. I've uninstalled AVG and installed it again. But same problem. A .BIN FILE IS MISSING. We will have to wait and see what happens. Fingers crossed for now.

  11. yeah i got the same problem

i reinstalled it and still got the same thing

  12. 1) go to http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI: / 1616

    5) move the dowloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

    That's it. Should be fixed.

  13. I think you will find the problem has now been sorted out by AVG I have just update three laptops & 2 desk tops through the normal update button

  14. I just came on here to ask the same question...AVG says i'm not protected, and A .bin file is missing.

  15. I came across the same problem but got it sorted.

    1 - Start up AVG,click Update Now.

2 - The list of updates is shown in Popup, click on the more information link.A list of updates will be shown.

3 - Click on and save all updates in a file except the last one - http://downloadfree.avg.com/update/u7iav... - because this is causing the problem.

4 - Cancel the update and instead click on Tools > Update from Directory and go to the file where you saved the updates.Install these and AVG should be working properly again.

  16. You are not alone. I'm receiving the same message.

EDIT: intc_escapee is right! Yeah everything is fixed and updated.

  17. I just downloaded AVG for the first time, today, and I'm getting the same error.  If you delete and re-install it, you're probably going to get the same thing.  I guess it's a problem on their end.

  18. Thanks a lot intc_escapee. You rock.

  19. Hello Jon,

It appears that the problem is with one of the AVG 8.0 free updates.

The problem apparently affects both Vista & XP.

It should be easy to rectify.

    Goto:

    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...

    1) go to AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security - Updates

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG, or any name you wish

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI : / 1616

    5) move the downloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

I did this and the 'Missing Bin File' error was corrected.

This solution came from Shin01 at the Askmehelpdesk, for which I am very grateful.

Please let me know if this works for you.

  20. I think there is a problem with their latest virus update package that you pull down when it does an update.  It was fine yesterday, but is broken today.  An uninstall/install will NOT fix it as it appears to be on AVG's side.  I doubt they will address it until Monday.

  21. yipeee!!!

    Got it sorted!!

did what GIZMO said and it Worked!!!!

    now it's working fine

    Thanks Gizmo

  22. Apparently everyone who is using AVG 8.0 is having this problem. I too am also dealing with it. Since it only happened today and I have done nothing to change any files, I think it's AVG's fault. Maybe the file they're trying to have us update is not compatible with the free version. Best bet is to just wait and play it by ear.

  23. When this happens it really means that on the AVG end of things, the bin file/updates file is not in the correct directory on the server.

You can always search the web for AVG free 8 updates, download them from a site and open them with the AVG program, under Tools, Update from Directory.

Just remember the directory or folder you downloaded the updates into.  This is the manual approach to updating.

Today, August 17, 2008, AVG updates were working properly.

It's too bad that the AVG / Grisoft folks don't post a message indicating the problem exists.  So many folks, install, uninstall, install again and again thinking that it is a fault on their end.
