I have a modem that only has one ethernet port and a USB port. How could I get Xbox live without a router?

  1. If your xbox is far away from your modem, use home plugs. They run the internet through the electrical cables in your house, i use them. It means you have constant connection and no worries as it is now wireless. Then run your pc off usb slot.

  4. put the ethernet cored in to the back of the modem  

  5. Run the PC off the USB port and the Xbox off the Ethernet port. There's a very good chance the modem supports that. If not, you can use Internet Connection Sharing to turn your PC into a router, sharing the USB based connection among the devices at the PC's Ethernet port.
