It seems like all my family members are leaving Texas to other states like Illinois and Tennessee and they are trying to convince my dad to go. supposedly in those states they pay you double what you earn here in Texas for example my uncle works for a roofing contractor here in Texas winning 15H he move to Chicago now winning 35H doing the same thing? Is this true if so, whats the catch? and how are the taxes over there anyways we pay 2500.00 a year in Texas

  1. The catch is the cost of living. I live in NJ, where it is astronomical. I have a one and a half bedroom house (TINY) and our real estate taxes are almost 4,000 a year. Car insurance is also very high, as well. So, in reality, your pay may double, but so will all your other bills. In a big city, the cost of living is going to be extremely high. You really have to weigh it out, but in most cases, you will see that you are not really making more because you are paying higher bills.

  2. I live in Texas and hire in people from all over the state.  I hear over and over what great housing you can buy for the money here in Texas (low cost of living), and I haven't really heard complaints that the pay is significantly less.  It's the IT industry though.

  3. Usually the pay will increase in areas where the cost of living is higher.
