  1. MALTA.G.C could stand for Malta, Gozo and Comino or, more likely, Malta George Cross

Malta was awarded the George Cross after the bravery of the people of Malta during the Siege of Malta in World War II by King George VI in 1942

If the latter, then might I suggest that you offer your plaque to a war museum?

There were several locomotives named "Malta", most were later renamed to "MALTA G.C.".

"Locomotive 5616 was Built at Crewe on 16th August 1934 and was named "MALTA" on 6th August 1936, she was renamed "MALTA G.C. on 23rd October 1943"

    Or the LMS Locomotive

Jubilee Class 4-6-0 No.45616 ‘ Malta GC’ (BR Green) (593)
