  1. As said, a patent is very advisable. From there you need to pitch your ideas to investors.

I suggest approaching engineers with the design and asking them how easy it is to produce and how well it would work and how much a prototype would cost.

There are investors out there who, if you put a strong proposal forward, will be interested an example would be http://www.blossomim.com/

Approaching car manufacturers with the design is a good idea as Ford are investing in green technology, Toyota are continually developing their hybrid cars.

If you are looking for specific information I suggest visiting: http://www.ukinvest.gov.uk/en-GB-index.h... which may help you work out what investors are looking for.

It may also be worth looking through Univeristy websites and approaching their Automotive research Proffesors, Durham University have such a Centre.

Intertek are a good option as they test designs, and may be able to give you more advice.

    Good Luck.

  2. There are companies you see advertising on TV and in other places that offer to help you bring your invention to market, but I don't know if they are any good. You can googl "invention" to get links like www.InventHelp.com.

When you say, "send it" what exactly do you mean You mean to have someone else use their money to build it for you? If it is a good invention, I am sure lots of people with money would be willing to accept it. They would use their money to build and sell it and make money and maybe not give any back to you, or not enough back to you. To ensure that you get your fair share of money back you would need to patent it first. That is a long, complicated and expensive process.

The bottom line is that, contrary to what most people think, coming up with a new idea is often the easiest part of the invention process. Getting it built and marketed and keeping others from copying it and taking away all your business is 99% of the work done my successful inventors. Edison and Bell were successful that way, but Tesla was not. So even though Tesla was MUCH smarter than Edison or Bell, his name is all but forgotten now.

  3. You really need to get a patent.

  4. Get a patent. In the meantime, there's what is called a "poor man's patent":

Draw up your design, put it in a sealed envelope, and mail it to yourself. Don't open the envelope and the postmark date will serve as an official time-stamp if anyone else tries to rip you off. This would show the court you had the idea first.

Patent searches are the most time-consuming and expensive part of the process. Most people have to hire a firm to do this. If you are a student, try to make a class trip out of going to Washington DC and doing a patent search yourselves.

There are firms that just go through patents and look for good ones to build. Just getting a patent sometimes has investors and manufacturing companies contacting you.

REMEMBER a patent is only good for 10 years, then it is considered part of common knowledge. You probably don't have any way to manufacture your idea so you may want to use a contractor. If you think your idea will make huge money within the first 10 years you most likely want to lease it. If it needs a lot of work in that time you may want to just sell it to the highest bidder.

  5. First thing you need to do is patent the idea.

Google "Patent Office" to find out what you need to do.

If you don't do this then someone else can steal your idea and you will not get anything for it, and lose control of the idea.

Once it is patented then you can take it to any large company who might have an interest in the idea.

  6. The most important things here is that you Patent it yourself, at least the design. Whatever you do don't go to the motor industry with it, all they will do is want to buy it from you and shelve the idea until the Petroleum companies run out of oil. Oil is big business at the moment so go to some one who has the know how to build electric engines. I'm presuming it runs on something other than oil. Hope it works out for you. Good luck
