I want to know if a real clamshell will hurt the fish. I have a great filter (fish mate 3000with UV). The shell is 36 inches across.

  1. I think you can buy a spray silicon to cover it. The calcium break down might be too much for koi- if that's the fish you are going to use. Don't forget water birds will snack on your fish in the wee hours of the morning.

  2. yes you can use the shell but you should be awear it will probley raise your ph level over time

  3. that will look great but I would try to coat the shell with something so that it doesnt deteriorate over time...be sure to use a product that is fish safe

  4. As long as the shell has been clean thoroughly and not carrying any bacteria on it you should be fine.
