I have 5 cats and the rug is made of wool which apparently fleas just love.

  1. You need to treat your cats if they have fleas.  Spraying the rug won't work for long and you would need to stay off of it.

  2. Hoovering is the best method for getting rid of fleas.

Actually, Hoovering regularly is the best way to keep dirt and pests at bay.

Empty your vacuum cleaner into a bag and dispose of it.

  3. Use the scotch guard first and let it dry completely, then use the flea spray.  A cheaper solution to flea spray is a little table salt sprinkled over the rug once a week you would vacuume it anyway and then reapply it with say, a salt shaker.  You can do this on fabric furniture as well as the prefered sleeping areas of the cats and it won't hurt the fabric either!

    Cheers!
