  1. Most likely, this could be possible. I would reccomend taking the actual jewelry box itself to a crafts store, such as Michael's or AC Moore and asking to speak with someone in the paint section as to what type of paint would be most effective for the type of effect you are trying to achieve. For example, if you are planning to use stencils, you may need a different type of paint than if you were using a simple monochromatic theme.

    It's hard to guess what you need without seeing the actual jewelry box, but if I had to take a wild guess, I would think that acrylic red paint and gold leaf type paint may work, if you use a clear coat over the whole thing to seal it when you are done.

I think you have to be more specific about what you want unless of course you're really just exploring the idea.  For instance, do you know what kind of coloration you'd like such as an acrylic coating or do you want to plate over the silver?  You can get paints at a hobby shop but if you want to plate it then that is an entirely different issue.
