  1. Mom may have nicked him while she was doing the potty l**k or while she was cleaning him. Be mindful of whatever you put on the puppy will end up in his mom's mouth. Make sure there is nothing in their bed that could have possibly scratched the baby. My vet recommends small amounts of neosporin, but I don't know if it his harmful to the mom. Make a quick call to vet's answering service. Be prepared...mom will take that bandage off.

  2. You should call your veterinarian. A cut usually isn't a big deal, but it's still a puppy (3 days old!). How did a 3 day old puppy get a cut? They usually just sleep with their mom for the first week or so.

  3. Keep it clean yes, but help it heal. I use Miracle Mist Plus (the spray) for everything on our family, pets, horses, you name it. Safe and gentle on newborn babies, including 4 leggeds.

  4. I own three pitbulls. And believe me, there will be a lot more cuts where that comes from. Don't bandage it! Leave it open to the air and put a hot wash cloth on it to allow it to drain. Do it at least twice a day, if you can do it much more do so. All of this depends on how deep the cut is too. But a warm wash cloth really helps it to drain and keeps the infection down.

  5. You really need to take it to the vet,as if it gets infected, the puppy will most likely die, being so young,so it will probably need oral antibiotics. At least keep cleaning it and put Neosporin on it. How did it get a cut? And if you can't afford a vet, what will you do if the mom or other pups get sick? You should have had your dog spayed.

Edit: Look in the phonebook for Veterinarians and you will find a number for one.You can at least ask them for advice about the puppy, and ask if they have a payment plan so you can take the mom and pups for vaccinations, worming and spay surgery for the mom.

  6. A trip to the vet for proper treatment maybe?

  7. I bought a generic cream "for cuts and scrapes" from petsmart. I use it every time they get cuts!

  8. Take it to the vet.

Do you have a phone book? Look in there.

Or you do have internet access, go to http://www.google.com type in Veterinarians then your town and state and it will bring up all the vet clinics in your area with their phone numbers included.

  9. If you can keep your dog from l*****g it off you can try sugar or honey. just type in a search for sugar healing wounds.

  10. how did a pup that young get a cut already?

  11. it is a cut people taking it to the vet will only make you lose money since it is so young they can't really do anything!

baking soda and peroxide should do it and bandaging it up is a great way to keep him/ her from scratching or biting it but there really isn't much else to do except wait, don't worry your doing great ^_^

  12. Do not, I repeat DO NOT PUT PEROXIDE ON THE CUT!!!

Peroxide kills germs yes, but it also kills the skin it's in contact with, making closing the wound harder and scarring bigger!

How big is the cut?  If it's more than an inch take it to the Vet for stitches.

If not, bathe the wound in saline solution (like for contacts, just don't spray it on), and let the Mom clean it.  Don't stop her from l*****g it; it'll help kill bacteria far more than peroxide will.  Then bathe it in saline again...  Keep repeating every 3 or 4 hours till it's starts healing or looks red & swollen.  If the it's red, swollen, or the pup is panting, finding it hard to take a breath, take it to the Vet; infection could have set in.

    Good luck.

  13. take it to the vet, and be more careful
